Challenges Alternative Education is a
highly structured alternative education program
for youths, ages 13-18 that allows contracted
school districts in Lawrence County to address
the educational, emotional, and social skills
needs of students who fail to comply with public
school expectations. Referrals are accepted
through contracted schools.
Crossroads Treatment Program is an after
school and summer program for youth ages 5-17
who are at risk of placement out of the home, or
who have been released from placement but
continue to need ongoing structure. The program
provides individual and group therapy, study
skills, social skills, and recreation.
Counselors meet weekly with parents and school
designees to evaluate progress. The
program runs 4 hours a day, 4 days a week.
Referrals are made through Lawrence County
Children and Youth Services. Crossroads
Behavioral Health Treatment Program is for
those youth who have a mental health diagnosis.
Mental Health Professionals provide individual,
group and family therapy and the children
receive regular evaluations by a Licensed
Psychologist to monitor their progress.
Family Reintegration is an intervention
program designed specifically to support those
students returning home from placement and work
with the families to make this transition a
lasting success.
Foster Care provides substitute care in
safe and nurturing homes for children and
infants to age 17 who have been removed from
their homes due to parental abuse/neglect or
lack of parental control. Referrals are made
through Lawrence County Children and Youth
Services.
Residential Services:
Krause Youth Center
Mullen Girls Group Home
Each residential program accepts youth ages
10-18 who are in need of emergency shelter care
or have been referred for out-of-home placement
because of abuse, neglect, delinquency, and lack
of parental control. Weekly counseling, social
skills training, and drug and alcohol services
are provided for all students. Youth 16 years of
age and older attend Life Skills Group.
Referrals are made through Lawrence County
Children and Youth Services and Juvenile
Probation.
Kirkwood Transitional Living Home
Transitional Apartment Living
These programs provide a residential option
for youth ages 16 to 21 for whom the goal is
living on their own in a successful manner.
Training on the life skills necessary for
independent living are provided by staff as well
as on-going support and monitoring.
The Independent Living Program (ILP)
serves youth (ages 16-21) who are currently in
out-of-home placement. The programs gives youth
the opportunity to be self-sufficient. The
program gives youth the opportunity to be
self-sufficient. The program is able to
accommodate all youth who have been placed by
Lawrence County Children and Youth Services who
meet the age requirements.
